The Cyprus
countryside is endowed with inexhaustible historical, natural and human riches, generously
revealed to the visitor. Its traditional villages, enhance and complement a
wonderful natural environment, with their local character, traditional architecture and
village planning. Such places are conducive to a harmonious coexistence of man with
nature, a coexistence sought by more and more visitors on their holidays.
On the Southern slopes of the Troodos mountains, among the picturesque wine-producing
villages, known as "Krasohoria", lies the oldest one, the
charming Omodhos village. |
|
| It is approximately 21 km from
Limassol and 18 km from the nearest beach. The large cobbled village square next to
the old Monastery of the Holy Cross is unique in tradition and character. It is
surrounded by white stone-built dwellings, shops selling the famous and beautiful
hand-made lace and jewellery, tavernas and cafes and is an ideal place to gather and meet
with the local people, in a hospitable and old fashioned atmosphere. The
friendly inhabitants, vine growers since the olden days, are warm and welcoming,
and consider a visit to their village as a compliment. The streets are
spotless and very picturesque and everything has retained its original architectural
character. Omodhos is a village rich in
cultural history and its famous Monastery of the Holy Cross, houses the Holy Rope left in Omodhos by St. Helen in 327a.d. In the old days
the village was a unique center of education and literature not only in the surrounding
areas but all over Cyprus. |
| Omodhos
opens for you a window to nature and tradition, promising unforgettable holidays filtered
through the sense of genuine, traditional Cypriot hospitality. |
